Infused Pre-Rolls: What Are They & How Are They Made?

An infused pre-roll is a marijuana joint that has a cannabis concentrate like hash, kief, wax, or shatter added to it. The concentrate can be placed inside the rolling papers with the ground flower, or it can be added to the outside of the pre-roll. By adding the concentrate, the pre-roll becomes more potent and offers a more intoxicating experience.¹

Pre-rolls are infused with concentrates in one of two ways (or sometimes, both). The first way is to add a concentrate to the flower before the pre-roll is rolled. This is a great option for kief pre-rolls, hash pre-rolls, diamond pre-rolls, and moon rock pre-rolls. The second way to infuse a pre-roll is to pack it, roll it, and then dip the entire pre-roll in a concentrate like wax, sauce, resin, or rosin.¹

• Hash Pre-Rolls: Hash is made by compressing and heating the trichomes from the marijuana plant. The final product can be added to pre-rolls to increase both the potency and flavor of the product.
  
  
• Kief Pre-Rolls: Kief is just the loose, dried trichomes that come off the flower when it’s handled and ground. That fine, potent powder can be collected and added into the pre-roll before it's rolled to give the pre-roll a little extra kick.

• Wax Pre-Rolls: There are a few different types of waxes that can be used in pre-rolls, including budder and crumble, but the principle is all the same. Wax can be either broken apart and added inside the pre-roll, or it can be added after the pre-roll is rolled by dipping the roll into wax. While this tends to be a little messier, it is also much more potent.
  
  

• Diamond Pre-Rolls: Diamonds are little THCA crystals that form during the extraction process. When THCA is heated or decarboxylated, it turns into THC. By adding diamonds to the pre-roll, the manufacturer is packing in extra potency that hits the moment the pre-roll is lit.
  
  

• Moonrock Pre-Rolls: Sometimes, potency isn’t enough. Sometimes, you need potency on top of potency, and this is the premise behind moon rocks. Moon rocks are marijuana flower buds that have been dipped in a concentrate and then, in most cases, rolled in kief. To infuse a pre-roll with moon rocks, the concentrate-laced flower is broken apart and added into a pre-roll before it is rolled.
